The Club enjoyed a successful 2011. It was really good to welcome our new members to the Club; new members, new families and, especially, new younger players joining us and keeping us on our toes. At the recent AGM it was decided not to increase Subscriptions, which remain unchanged for the fourth year.

Teams and Tournaments- Both Ladies and Men’s Teams are competing in their own leagues again this year – we wish them all good luck! For the first time at the Club last year we held an American Tournament with many members participating making it a very enjoyable day.

The Annual Summer Tournament of Singles, Ladies Doubles, Men’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles gave us an exciting Final’s Day for all players and spectators.  Both tournaments will run again this year. If you have never entered before, why not have a go this year, you will be allocated a partner to ensure matches are as balanced as possible.

Junior Coaching

We ran our annual Junior Coaching Course during the early summer with some enthusiastic play from our younger members. This year we will repeat the Junior Coaching Course. This will be followed by some dedicated sessions for Juniors and Teenagers in the summer months – watch this space!  We hope this will lead to greater use of the courts and encourage those who are a little shy to come regularly and find players from their own age group.

Social

On the competitive side, staying with sport, BUT moving swiftly on to cricket!  We once again challenged the Rugby Club to a Cricket match. Unfortunately the Rugby Club failed to get a full side together, but even so managed to beat us! We did lend them some good players! We look forward to the return match this year?  We have also enjoyed a variety of fun social events throughout the year.  The mid-summer’s barbeque and games on Carne Beach and the Summer Social and BBQ at Peter and Sue’s were well supported and blessed by good weather! They were very much enjoyed by all who attended.

The VSSC Donkey Derby last summer was supported by many of our members who ran stalls and games; we had a lovely evening with lots of fun, BBQ and races and we look forward to the next.

The Murder Mystery evening with dinner and the performance of The ‘Murder Mystery Theatre Group’ was a great success.  The ‘Pasty and Bowls Evening’ earlier in the year was great fun and was embraced by members of all ages; we are planning to repeat this popular event in March.

Also, a successful Tuscan Tennis Tour saw 19 members of the club playing an exciting week’s tournament and taking advantage of the Italian delights of Lucca.

Other suggested social events on the horizon for this year include a Games Evening with supper at the Veryan Sports and Social Club as well as a Salsa evening to dance the blues away!

We very much look forward to your support for the Club for another year keeping fit, improving your tennis and, above all, having fun.

See you on the courts!
